Manufacturing and distributing personal computers safely can be quite the challenge. The complexity of its supply chain, strict requirements, crucial security measures for high value goods and the importance of near-perfect delivery performance can add pressure to almost any logistic team and their carriers. Not to mention the surge in computer technology demand from an influx of new remote workers, customers need products fast.
The Challenge
The manufacturer needed a custom freight solution that guaranteed trailers would always be at their three facilities for spot shipments. Limited facility floor space and concerns around congestion at the dock doors meant they needed a better plan for managing outbound FLT that offered flexible, on-demand capacity for any-time spot market shipments.
Transitioning from live to drop loads would also require a dedicated network of trusted carriers familiar with their business needs.
The Solution
To support its domestic FTL operations and drive more consistent delivery performance- while also avoiding dock congestion, a new custom drop trailer carrier network was created.
Using Loadsmart's carrier network and dedicated account team, a highly selective pool of drop carriers were committed to support each facility, covering shipments to all 50 states. In addition to a host of safe transit requirements, every carrier was required to be connected to a tracking partner, like Project44, providing visibility on 100% of shipments. Today, these carriers provide the capacity and delivery performance required to support the tech company's supply chain.
